STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- All was safe and secure at Borough Hall Thursday.
After all, Agent P was on the case.
Agent P, also known as Perry the Platypus from Disney's popular "Phineas and Ferb" musical cartoon show, was deputized as Staten Island's "Ambassador for Peace and Harmony" by the borough's own James P, as in Borough President James P. Molinaro.
Also joining in the fun were students from PS 13, who were sworn in as Molinaro's special agents for the day.
It was all to highlight Agent P's appearance at the St. George Theatre next month, where he'll join Phineas and Ferb, Candace and the evil scientist Dr. Doofenshmirtz for "Disney's Phineas And Ferb: The Best Live Tour Ever" show.
The show touches down at the St. George on April 17 and 18. Families can get half off on tickets by calling Borough Hall special events director Joanne Nuzzo at 718-816-2133.
The kids, with Molinaro's help, yesterday made their own secret agent badges before Agent P arrived.
Vincent Gochnour really likes Phineas and Ferb, the inventive and slightly snarky brothers who never seem to get caught by mom no matter what outlandish scheme or project they undertake.
"They're little kids, but they build stuff like roller coasters," Vincent said.
Perry, meanwhile, leads a double life as an agent with OWCA (Organization Without a Cool Acronym), where he stymies Dr. Doofenshmirtz and his plans for global domination.
"I like your hat," Molinaro told the fedora-wearing Agent P as the platypus thrilled the kids with some martial arts moves, including a backflip.
Molinaro then presented Agent P with a certificate, saying that he'd shown "courage, leadership and a commitment to community."
"He is deserving of this award," Molinaro said.
Using the powers of his office, the borough president then swore in the kids as special agents, with the students pledging to be ambassadors of "good will, harmony and love" and vowing to "never bully any boys or girls."
As he is on television, Agent P was silent throughout.
But those in attendance could tell he was pleased.
"He's a happy platypus," said Diana Reed, who performs in the show and accompanied Perry to Borough Hall yesterday.
When asked how she felt about meeting the very special special agent, second-grader Julia Kolpak said, "Awesome."
